God Wants to Give Me Christ, Bardo A. Montelongo

I grew up in a border city in Mexico never having a heart to seek after God. By the Lord's mercy and under His sovereign arrangement I attended and graduated from the University of Texas in Austin, where at the time appointed by God I received the Lord Jesus as my personal Savior when I was a junior. After graduation I felt led of the Lord to attend the Full-Time Training in Anaheim for the purpose of growing in the Lord, learning to practice preaching the gospel, and being grounded in the truth of the Bible. In the Full-Time Training, while studying the Bible with the aid of the ministry of Watchman Nee and Witness Lee, I've come to know and experience the Lord like I never thought possible. I came to realize that Christ is everything. I remember very well exactly when I came to this realization. It was during my Saturday morning class on the Song of Songs. I always thought God's desire was to give me something of Christ. If I needed patience, I would pray for patience and God would respond by giving me patience. However, in my experience the more I asked for patience, the less patient I became. This time I realized that God does not want to give me something independent of Christ, but He wants to give me Christ Himself. My prayer should not be focused on having more patience, but it should be focused on gaining Christ and having more of Him (Philippians 3:8). This has greatly helped my experience as a Christian.
